Description
Castellare di Castellina ‘s Chianti Classico Riserva “Castellare” 2022 is a masterful wine that represents the pinnacle of Chianti tradition combined with absolute technical cleanliness. This Riserva is distinguished by the exclusive use of native grape varieties, categorically rejecting the use of international varieties (such as Merlot or Cabernet).
Here is a summary description of the 2022 vintage:
Organoleptic Profile
-
Color: Intense ruby red with deep garnet reflections, very elegant in the glass.
-
Nose: The bouquet is broad and deep. Notes of black cherry and ripe plum emerge, intertwined with tertiary hints of tobacco, licorice and a slight vanilla note given by the wood, with a finish reminiscent of wilted violets.
-
Taste: This is a wine of great stuff on the palate. The 2022 vintage gave a solid structure and velvety tannins, well balanced by an acidic freshness that ensures longevity. The finish is dry, aristocratic and very persistent.
Technical Characteristics
-
Grapes: 95% Sangioveto (the local name for Sangiovese) and 5% Canaiolo.
-
Aging: Matures for about 15 months in French oak barrels (not new) and rests for another 15 months in bottle before release.
-
Symbolism: As with all Castellare labels, the bird depicted on the label (different each year) symbolizes the company’s commitment to sustainable, pesticide-free agriculture.
Recommended pairings
It is a Reserve that requires dishes with character:
-
Red meats: Florentine steak, green pepper steak or roast beef.
-
Game: Stewed wild boar or pappardelle with hare.
-
Cheese: Aged pecorino or washed-rind cheeses.
Strength: The Riserva di Castellare is celebrated for its extraordinary balance. Despite its importance and aging, it never turns out to be a “heavy” wine, maintaining that verticality and grace that only the great Sangioveses of Castellina can offer.
The 2022 vintage is just now beginning to show its great potential.
