Brunello di Montalcino “Iliceus” is the flagship label of Fattoria di Campriano (the same company that produces the Chianti Colli Senesi we saw earlier). It is a Brunello that focuses everything onbalance and finesse, trying to convey the sunny side of Montalcino where it was born.

Organoleptic Profile

Color: Intense ruby red with classic garnet hues that become more evident with aging.

Nose: The nose is clean and enveloping. It offers a bouquet of berries, dark plum and morello cherry, interwoven with notes of cocoa, tobacco and a slight balsamic nuance (spearmint or eucalyptus).

Taste: In the mouth it is a wine of great harmony. It has a solid structure, but the tannins are well worked, making the sip velvety. It is distinguished by a beautiful final persistence reminiscent of red fruit and spices.

Grapes: 100% Sangiovese Grosso.

Aging: As per specifications, it rests for at least 5 years between wooden barrels (usually large Slavonian or French oak) and bottle before being put on the market.

Philosophy: The production of “Iliceus” tends to be very respectful of the vintage, avoiding excessive extractions to maintain an elegant and never heavy drink.

It goes beautifully with the bold flavors of the Tuscan land:

Trivia about the name: The name “Iliceus” derives from Latin and recalls the Holm Oak(Quercus ilex), a tree symbolic of the woods surrounding the vineyards of Montalcino and which gives its name to the town itself(Mons Ilcinus, the mountain of holm oaks).
Compared to the “monumental” Brunellos we analyzed earlier, the Iliceus is often appreciated for its excellent value for money and a very fruit-centered flavor profile.
