Description
Isole e Olena ‘s Chianti Classico 2022 is a wine of legendary finesse. Paolo De Marchi, who has led the winery for decades (now under the ownership of the EPI group), has imprinted an unmistakable style: a Sangiovese that focuses not on muscular power but on transparency, elegance and purity of fruit.
Here is a description of the 2022 vintage:
Organoleptic Profile
-
Color: Light and bright ruby red, almost transparent, as in the best tradition of highland Sangiovese.
-
Nose: Extremely crisp and floral. On the nose there are wild strawberries, tart cherry and rose petals, with a subtle touch of herbs and a chalky minerality.
-
Taste: In the mouth it is a blade of light: fresh, snappy and extremely clean. The tannins are silky and almost imperceptible, leading to a savory mouthfeel finish that continually draws the sip back.
Technical Characteristics
-
Grapes: Predominantly Sangiovese, with small shares of Canaiolo and sometimes a touch of Syrah (a historic feature of this blend).
-
Aging: Matures for about a year in oak barrels of various sizes (from barriques to large casks), trying to minimize the impact of wood on the flavor profile.
-
The 2022 Vintage: Despite being a hot year, Isole e Olena managed to preserve a surprising freshness, typical of vineyards located in the cooler Barberino Val d’Elsa area.
Recommended pairings
It is a wine that does not overpower food, but accompanies it gracefully:
-
Fine Cuisine: Beef tartare, duck breast or pasta dishes with porcini mushrooms.
-
Tradition: Pici with white meat sauce or roasted white meats.
-
Trivia: Because of its freshness, it is one of the few reds that also pairs beautifully with structured fish dishes (such as cacciucco)
