Description

TheAvignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2022 is a bottle that marks an interesting moment: it combines the rigor of the winery’s biodynamic philosophy with the exuberance of a warm and generous vintage.

If the 2021 was more austere, the 2022 has more “pulpy” fruit and a slightly more immediate drinkability, while maintaining that vertical elegance that distinguishes Avignonesi from its neighbors.

Sensory Description: 2022 vintage

  • Color: Brilliant ruby red with violet hues that emphasize its youth and freshness.

  • The Bouquet: It is an explosion of fresh red fruits. You will distinctly hear pomegranate, morello cherry and red plum. There are floral touches of violets and a hint of licorice and Mediterranean scrub on the finish. The wood is used very discreetly, leaving room for a light sweet spice (vanilla just hinted at).

  • Palate: The entry is lively. Despite the heat of the 2022 vintage, Avignonesi has managed to preserve a nice acidity that makes the wine dynamic. The tannins are “silky,” very well integrated and without edge.

Technical Details and Philosophy

  • Grapes: 100% Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile).

  • Method: Certified Organic and Biodynamic. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts.

  • Aging: About 18 months between large oak barrels and tonneaux, to prevent the wood from overpowering the varietal.

  • Alcohol content: 14% vol.

Service Tips

  • Temperature: 16-18°C.

  • “Organic” pairing: Try it with a Chianina tagliata or with porcini mushroom and legume dishes (such as farro soup), where the minerality of the wine enhances the flavors of the earth.

It is a “gentle” wine in name and in fact, perfect if you are looking for a Nobile that does not tire the palate and respects the environment. Have you already purchased it or found it on a wine list?
