Ricciarelli di Siena Gluten Free

 12,50

Ricciarelli di Siena are, by their very nature, among the most “friendly” desserts for gluten-free eaters. Having originated in the Middle Ages as precious almond-based pastries, the original recipe does not call for wheat flour, making the Gluten Free version virtually identical to the traditional one.

Description

Ricciarelli Di Siena Gluten free 250 gr

Ricciarelli di Siena have ancient origins. According to culinary historians, these marzipan-based sweets originated during the 1300s in the Republic of Siena. Sienese confectioners of the time took their cues for making these sweets from the Arab tradition. Siena in fact imported marzipan from the East.

There are two hypotheses about theorigin of the name marzipan. The first is that the name comes from Martaban, an ancient Burmese city. The other hypothesis is that the name marzipan comes from the Arabic mauthban, a container that was used to store this food.

As mentioned earlier, ricciarelli were born during the 1300s, but the exact date is unknown. What is certain instead is that ricciarelli are “close relatives” of sweets prepared by Arab peoples, who worked marzipan to which they then added honey and ginger
