Description
THE original recipe for panforte “Panpepato” enriched with spices is the essence of Sienese tradition. Panforte di Siena IGP is a traditional Sienese dessert made with dried and candied fruit, honey and spices, which can come in a white version, covered with powdered sugar, or a black version, covered with spices.
Panforte is a sweet known and appreciated since the Middle Ages, when pilgrims and spice merchants passed along the Via Francigena. A product full of energy made from a dough of flour, candied fruit, almonds, sugar, honey and spices.
Panforte is a rich and wholesome dessert where the crunchiness of the almonds is wrapped in the slight tartness of the spices and candied oranges and melon. This is why it is good all the time, not just at Christmas, a time when it is truly unfailing on the tables of Siena and Tuscany.
