Description
Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2022 is one of the appellation’s most reliable and prestigious labels. Federico Carletti, the owner, has managed to tame the hot 2022 vintage by creating a wine that combines muscular structure with surprising drinkability.
Here are the key points of this release:
Profile Description.
-
Appearance: Deep ruby red, a symptom of excellent extractive concentration.
-
Nose: Very generous and “dark.” Notes of mulberry, ripe plum and blackberry dominate, enhanced by an elegant spicy timbre reminiscent of cinchona, tobacco and a hint of black pepper.
-
Palate: This is a “full” wine. The softness of the Merlot (present in the blend) smooths the angles of the Sangiovese, making the sip velvety. The tannins are dense but extremely smooth, with a final freshness that balances the 14.5% vol. alcohol.
Technical Details.
-
Grape varieties: Sangiovese (85 percent), with a balance of Merlot, Colorino and Canaiolo (15 percent total).
-
Aging: About 14-16 months in wood, using mainly French oak barrels (about 2/3) and oak vats.
-
Scores: Early reviews from international critics (such as Falstaff) are around 92 points, confirming the high quality of the vintage.
Pairing and Service
| Council | Detail |
| Temperature | 18-20°C (slightly warmer than other Nobile wines to encourage the opening of tertiary aromas). |
| Glass | Wide goblet to oxygenate the important structure. |
| Dishes | Roasts of red meat, stews, game or pasta dishes with wild boar ragout. Also excellent with very mature pecorino cheese. |
Quick comparison
If you are looking for a more modern, rich and “international” wine (thanks to the touch of Merlot and barrique), Poliziano 2022 is the perfect choice. It is generally more powerful and smooth than Avignonesi ‘s biodynamic and vertical style or Boscarelli‘s artisanal style.
