Description
Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore 2021 is the historic, “hillside” expression of Bolgheri. Unlike many neighbors that rely exclusively on Bordeaux varietals, Grattamacco proudly maintains a share of Sangiovese, giving the wine a tension and elegance unique to the appellation.
Here is the profile of the 2021 vintage:
Organoleptic Profile
-
Color: Deep and bright ruby red.
-
Nose: Extremely complex and refined. Opens with notes of small black fruits (blueberry, currant) intertwined with hints of graphite, licorice root and tobacco. A balsamic and mineral note typical of vineyards located on high ground stands out.
-
Taste: In the mouth it is a wine of great backbone and personality. The tannins are dense but very fine-grained. The presence of the Sangiovese provides a savory freshness that perfectly balances the power of the Cabernet, leading to a long, elegant and vibrant finish.
Technical Characteristics
-
Grape varieties: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Sangiovese.
-
Vinification: Fermentation in open truncated wooden vats, with spontaneous fermentation and manual punching down.
-
Aging: Matures for about 18 months in barriques (only 50 percent of which are new) and rests for at least 12 months in bottle.
-
Territory: The grapes come from one of the highest areas of Bolgheri (about 100-200 meters above sea level), which gives the wine a temperature range that results in superior aromatic finesse.
In summary
Grattamacco 2021 is a Bolgheri of extraordinary intellectual tension. It does not seek extreme softness, but focuses on a masterful balance between international structure and Tuscan vivacity. It is a wine with very long aging potential.
Ideal pairing: Florentine steak, roast pigeon, black truffle preparations or long-cooked red meats.
