Description
Tenuta di Trinoro ‘s Le Cupole 2022 is the second wine from Andrea Franchetti’s celebrated winery in Val d’Orcia. While technically the winery’s “entry level,” it is a red of extraordinary concentration and character, reflecting the exuberant, almost Bordeaux-like style of this wild corner of Tuscany.
Here is the profile of the 2022 vintage:
Organoleptic Profile
-
Color: Very deep and dark ruby red, almost impenetrable.
-
Nose: An explosion of ripe black fruit (plum, morello cherry, black currant) combined with notes of black pepper, leather and a distinct mineral component reminiscent of wet earth. Balsamic and medicinal herb nuances are not lacking.
-
Taste: The palate is dense and voluminous, typical of the 2022 vintage. It has rich but well-turned tannins and an acid shoulder that supports the important alcohol structure. The finish is warm, long and spicy.
Technical Characteristics
-
Grape varieties: Variable blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The blend changes each year to best express the harvest.
-
Aging: Matures for about 8 months in second- and third-passage French oak barrels, followed by a passage in cement tanks. This allows the freshness of the fruit to be maintained without excessive hints of new wood.
-
2022 vintage: A hot year that produced grapes of incredible aromatic density in Trinoro, making the wine particularly generous and immediate.
In summary
Le Cupole 2022 is an opulent, fleshy and sunny wine. It is the ideal choice for those looking for a Tuscan “Bordeaux cut” that does not compromise on power and intensity, while maintaining a velvety drinkability.
Ideal pairing: Succulent red meats, grilled steak, game dishes or intensely flavored aged cheeses.
