Panforte di Siena Gluten Free<\/p>\n

Panforte Gluten Free<\/b> is the inclusive variant of the quintessential Sienese dessert, a triumph of spices, candied fruit and almonds that manages to keep its dense, chewy texture intact even without the use of wheat flour.<\/p>\n

History<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

The preparation was delegated to theArte dei Medici e Speziali of Siena<\/a> and was intended exclusively for the nobles, the rich and the clergy<\/a> in view of the fact that it contained, in addition to orange<\/a>, citron<\/a> and melon<\/a> peels, almonds<\/a> and spices<\/a> that were very expensive for those times. As time went by, Panpepato did not undergo substantial changes and the ingredients remained more or less the same, until 1879<\/a>, when Queen Margherita<\/a> visited the city of Siena.<\/a> <\/p>\n

For the occasion, an apothecary prepared a panforte without the melon<\/i> coating and with a vanilla sugar<\/a> coating instead of black pepper. The Sienese offered it to the queen as “Panforte Margherita,” the name by which this more delicate “white” panforte is still known and marketed today. <\/p>\n

In May 2013, Panforte di Siena<\/i> was awarded PGI<\/a> certification.<\/p>\n\n
